Prominent Examples

Some deaths in custody have been publicly known, including a 50-year-old healthcare leader who perished in confinement after four months in confinement.

A prisoner held with the individual testified that he was led to the exercise area by correctional officers just prior to his demise, clearly wounded and exposed from the hips downward. His body has not been repatriated to Gaza.

Additional detainees who perished in detention in Israel remain anonymous. Correctional authorities and military gave analysts with the number of fatalities in detention, and limited additional information such as the facility where they lost their lives, but not the inmates’ personal details.

Documentation Problems
