Toy Story 5 Trailer Pits Woody and Buzz Against a Tablet Computer
Exactly 30 years after the original Toy Story movie debuted, establishing Pixar as a major film company and bringing audiences to beloved figures like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a brief look into the plot but keeping viewers wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang
In the teaser reveals the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a brand new toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser avoids is what Woody is back with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and assisting prize toys find good homes.
Certainly, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?
Connections from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before setting off for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the insignia attached to her shirt.
It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
